Alot of new platforms are coming out for independents to keep pace. I read an article speaking of how AutoTrader.com is forcing the lil guys out of the picture by increasing advertising fees.

However, if anyone is moving the small guys out the way its the business models such as Carmax/ Auction-Direct that do not bring anything back to the dealer level. No sales- no cars- no leads... they strip all of that from the independent.
