i opened up the distributor cap and saw that the coil was cracked, i
replaced the coil, distributor rotor, and the spark wires and plugs
and it still wont start. I also changed the distributor cap cause the
points were worn. if someone could please tell me the next step and
please tell me how to check the computer, i get one red light flash
when i turn on the battery but i don't know how to make it give me a

The Check Engine light is yellow, not red. It should come on for two
seconds when the key is first turned to "II", then it should go off and
remain off.
When you crank and the car refuses to start, does the tach needle jiggle
just the tiniest bit, or is it dead still?
To retrieve ECU codes, you short the gray two-pin Service Check connector
behind the top of the passenger kick panel (use a paper clip), peel the
carpet back from the front of the passenger footwell to expose the ECU,
turn the ignition to "II", then count the blinks from the red LED in the
face of the ECU.

no, the tach doesn't move at all when it turns over |

Does the Check Engine light behave EXACTLY as per what I outlined above? Or
does it remain on all the time? Or does it never light up at all?
Have you queried the ECU for codes?
Right now it appears your igniter is dead, but that depends on the behavior
of the Check Engine light.

When did you change the igniter? And was it OEM or aftermarket?

So when you short the Service Check connector there are no flashes from the
ECU's LED?

Good...

What has that got to do with anything? Do you suspect it's slipped? how old
is it? Is it aftermarket also?

All right. Let's be logical here.
Measuring at the igniter terminals...
With the key turned to "II", do you see battery voltage from the white/blue
wire to a body ground?
With the key turned to "II", do you see battery voltage from the
black/yellow wire to a body ground?

there are no aftermarket parts on the car but it is a v-tec engine and
it has about 170k miles. I do not think the timing belt has ever been
changed but that is just a guess
i will check the voltage tomorrow, it is dark outside now |

Ohhh....
A replacement engine...
And one not compatible with the car's original engine controls...
Bad, bad juju...

I'll bet. In this case, _everything_ might be a guess.

It may forevermore be dark unless you provide much more precise details of
the drivetrain's provenance.
You cannot simply change parts like underwear and expect things to work
properly.

You're not checking for spark, you're checking for battery voltage,
or about 12.65V.
I repeat below part of an earlier post of mine, which you evidently failed
to read in its entirety:
Measuring at the igniter terminals...
With the key turned to "II", do you see battery voltage from the white/blue
wire to a body ground?
With the key turned to "II", do you see battery voltage from the
black/yellow wire to a body ground?
