Default 2006 Audi A6 3.2 Avant Quattro

Hello Everyone,

I'm considering buying a 2006 A6 (3.1L V6 SFI) Avant Quattro. The one I'm
looking at is completely loaded with electronics (GPS, BOSE speakers - you
name it, it has it.).

It's listed at about $25,000. It's a lease return and was registered in
Mass. Is this a fair price? The vehicle looks great.

I've seen mixed reviews regarding the reliability of Audi electronics.

I'm hoping somebody out there can give me their thoughts on this question.
I'd appreciate the straight goods!

Thanks,

Grant Bannister

Consumer Reports suggests that 2006 was one of the better years for A6
reliability - achieving an "average" rating. The Audi A6 generally ranks
above the other European luxury cars in reliability which doesn't say a hell
of a lot.

My '04 TT 3.2 DSG S-Line coupe has been fine, too.

Haven't had a reason to evaluate it, that's how good it is.

They sound fine to me, for a car.

My 2007 A3 3.2 has been fine with the electronics. Wiring harnesses
appear to have above-average protection against vibration stress. The
shitty Bose speakers are definitely out of place on such a nice car, and
that's putting it nicely.

There's a square area right in the middle of the dash board the upper half
of which shows radio station info. On my '98 and my current '03 this info
fades when it is hot out or I have been driving for a long time. Hopefully
it's been fixed in the 2006, but it Audi didn't fix it between '98 and '03
maybe they still haven't fixed it. It took them several years to fix the
ignition switch problem.

I've heard that the early displays were first generation OLED, which was
notoriously unstable. My A3 06/07 manual sometimes refers to a
full-color display but my 07 has a monochrome LCD with sections of red
and yellow LEDs behind it.

Car drives very well, fantastic road holding. Engine is strong but
unrefined and loud. Electronics are a major hassle, battery often goes
out and can't hold charge because the electronics drain it. Warning
lights constantly on for some computer malfunction. You cant switch the
various sensors and warning off so be prepared to make the dealer your
second home. Always an issue with something electronic. Car barely
drives a day without some kind of electronic kink

The engines are smooth and refined, though the V6 is taxed by the A6's
4,000-pound curb weight. Acceleration is certainly passable, but most
other V6-equipped luxury cars are quicker. The A6 rides comfortably on
the highway, and while it's not the most athletic car in its class, our
editors like its predictable, nimble feel through the corners.
