Default New Car Paint Finish

Hi All,

Recently had to spend half a day at a stealership in the South of England
whilst my car's paint was being repaired (again) after they had damaged it
(again), and I was checking out the new BMWs in the showroom.
I was appalled by the quality of the paint finish on the 1's, 3's and the
Z4. The orange peel effect was very noticeable, to the extent that when
looking at the reflection of a thin straight line (a showroom window's
joint, for example) on any vehicle's paintwork, it wasn't a straight line,
but a series of dashes. I've seen smoother finishes on a post box.
The 5's were better, but not much.
I said to one of the sales staff how poor I thought it was, and he just
shrugged his shoulders and replied that that is what they are like these
days.

Any one else noticed this ?

regards

David

The finish on my '97 E39 is poor too. Thought they were all like this.
Other thing which annoys is the base coat only under the bonnet and on the
boot guttering.

At one time I put it down to their early adoption of water based paints -
but I had my old car resprayed in this (plain black) and it's a super
finish.

Huh? Where does France creep in to South of England - have they managed to
invade? I thought it was a bit quiet on the chunnel front - they were just
waiting for a diversion of interest to take over - by gum lad it's taken them
1000 years to have another go.
