Default '94 Caravan hard start

My son's '94 Caravan ES with the 3.3 engine is hard to start first
thing in the morning. It just cranks for a long time without seeming to
fire and then will start but he has to then give it a lot of gas and it
will slowly gain rpms... after that it runs pretty normal. If he shuts
it off and comes back a short time later, it will start fine, but if
it's been 15 minutes or longer it will be hard to start again.
Code 32 was displayed on dash indicating EGR circuit but was wondering
if that would even come into play with vehicle in open loop as is the
case on cold start.
Will replacing the EGR likely make this problem go away?

You may have a problem with the fuel pump check valve. The next time you go
to start the vehicle when it sits over nite, Turn the key on for 3 secs and
off, then on again for 3 sec and off. One more time then try to start the
engine. If it starts right away you know it is the fuel pump
