| | | Taurus: Would Appreciate Opinions On, Please Hello,
Am in the market for a new car.
I had a Sable about 10 years ago, and it was frankly a disaster.
So, have not really considered a Ford product since.
Looked at the new Buick LaCrosse, but really don't like it.
My son has suggested that I re-think Ford, and take a good look at the 2009
Taurus.
Will look at one this coming week, but thought I'd get a bit of a heads-up
now.
So, let me please ask, knowing that it's a bit subjective, etc.
How is the overall "quality" these days on the 2008 and 2009 Taurus ?
Transmission, components, build, etc. ? Compared to GM; e.g., a Buick ?
Am in my 70's now, and my major criteria is reliability.
Really can't spend half a day in the service department anymore.
Not sure what else to ask, but any other thoughts or opinions would be most
appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob |

I would believe that! One of my friends traded-in his unreliable '99 Toyota
Camry at 125,000 miles for a nice new 2008 Taurus. (It was killing him in
repair costs.) He told me it's the ONLY vehicle he's ever owned that did
not need to be returned to the dealer within the first few months for
repairs. He's a retired teacher and absolutely loves the car!

If your after reliability & quality, go look at Honda or Toyota.
If your going to spend quality money, you should get a quality vehicle
in return.
I can hear all the 'political' buyers starting to moan already...
Good Luck!

I know several people with -08 or '09 Taurus or Sables. They really
like them. No reliability problems. I would buy one in a heart-beat.

Ford appears to have put MOST of their issues behind them. See how
they stand up rust-wize in a few years. The old Taurus was a
rustbucket - as was the Winstar and the Aerostar before it. Escorts
had their rust issues as well.
The 3.8 and the Taurus tranny left a bad taste as well.
However, they are, in my opinion, better than any GM.Caddy is a joke.
GM small cars are CHEAP, even if not inexpensive. Shoddy workmanship
all around added to mediocre design. Mabee bringing in the european
designs like the malibu (astra) will be GM's salvation.
Neighbor just got a 2009 buick - nice car, but I could see at a quick
glance a lot of little things that indicate not enough care in
assembly (like what appears to be "dirt" in the paint under the
hood(fender lips etc).

| | | Re: Taurus: Would Appreciate Opinions On, Please the local police dept has been using the Taurus for 6-7 years now. they take
a beating and keep on running. very reliable cars if maintenance is kept up.
and when you compare the price to the foreign market, they are a better deal
there also.

My Mother owns a 2005 Freestyle. This uses many of the same components as
the current Taurus (it is essentially a Taurus X, except the Tauru and
Taurus X now get the more power 3.5L V-6 instead of the 3.0L V-6 in the
Freestyle). Her's has been troble free so far (over 3 years). I have
borrowed the car several times when I needed extra passenger room and I
enjoyed it very much.
You might also consider a Fusion. Not quite as large, but if you don't need
the extra passenger space, it is a nice car. I persoanlly own an '07 Fusion.
I've owned it for just about 2 years and the vehicle has 35,000 miles on the
odometer. It has never had a single problem. It has never been back to the
dealer.
