Default Usenet being cancelled

Have any of you folks lost access to usenet because your ISP cut it off?
Comcast is ending usenet access for me late in October. I enjoy reading
this newsgroup and a few others, but the prospect of paying Giganews or some
other service $8 per month doesn't thrill me. What are your plans if your
ISP pulls the plug on usenet?

Obviously, you vote out the current crop of idiots running the government.
The FCC commissioner has an IQ that barely tops his apparent age (teens).

Happened to me with Road Runner several months ago. I switched to
"motzarella.org". Free service and very happy with it.

My ISP is Rogers, and they cut out Newsgroups a year or so ago. I was
royally ticked, but I ended up switching to Giganews (because they offered a
discount to Rogers customers, because Giganews was the carrier Rogers used).
You should check to see if anyone is offering a discount for Comcast
customers. As for the reliability of Giganews, I haven't had any problems,
as long as the credit card works properly. You can also set it up to your
PayPal account too.

The Federal Government has nothing to do with Usenet being dropped by many
ISP's. Frontier dropped binary groups a few months ago and I expect it will
drop Usenet in the future. Anything to save a buck. When that time comes I
suppose I will look at the free alternatives. Right now I can't see myself
paying
to read some of the drivel I see posted.

JR

So far in Texas, Comcast has not said anything about ending newsgroups.
I'm sure they will eventually.
I'd like to go to DSL but all we have here is ATT and they don't carry ng's.
Might be worth it though.. DSL is half the the cost of Comcast cable internet and 4 times the speed.

I've used Giganews for a few years now. No complaints at all.

I pay 10 euros/year (about $14) for individual.net

http://www.individual.net/

Also your IP is hidden.

I've been using it for several years.

DSLExtreme is not cutting of my supernews account, so I just use that for -
ahem - testing binary downloads such as public domain music and such...

Ok, So enlighten me.
Last I knew....There are no Usenet "administrators" per se; each server
administrator is free to do whatever pleases him or her as long as the end
users and peer servers tolerate and accept it.

JR
