    Default On-Star & Radio Question

    Hello,

Have a new 2009 Buick LaCrosse.

Radio driving me nuts, as it keeps jumping off the Presets.
The Presets remain in memory, though, so can go back to it.
Just won't stay on any number for over 15 minutes or so.

Am trying to diagnose problem before returning to Dealer.

Was wondering if it might be interference from the On-Star gizmo, which I
    believe
periodically sends and receives messages and diagnostics.
Have never used it for anything.

Would like to Fully shut it off and totally disable it to see if that is the
    problem.
Can't find any button to do it.

Is it possible ? (Joke: besides not going for their contract after
    the 3 months introductory)
    How, please ?

    Thanks,
    Bob

Because there isn't one. No way to disable the On-Star system without
    physically removing it.

Take it back to the dealer and tell them what it's doing. BEFORE you do
something to screw up the vehicle and void the warranty.

Remember that radio is connected to the main data buss in the vehicle,
touch the wrong wire and you could end up with a non-running vehicle and
    VERY expensive repair bills.

Why not take it back to the dealer, it is under warranty, and have the
    problem corrected?

I realize you're being sarcastic, BUT the fact is that it is REALLY easy
to screw up the electronics in a modern vehicle.

I just replaced a BCM and the ECM in a vehicle that the owners decided
to cut/splice in the wiring for a different stereo system.

Steve is giving you good advice.
This is one of those problems that can get to be a real nightmare. It
    belongs to a
competent dealership shop, if you can find one.

Thee is a reason the car come with a warranty. Take it back and let the
dealer do the diagnostics. If it is a common problem, they will have the
cure. Don't start screwing around with any wiring.

On-Star for only three months? Used to be a year. It may be a nice
service, but, IMO, it is priced too high. I may have considered at about
half the cost. In my free year, I used it once for directions just to try
it and it was not all that helpful.

Mine's free for a year, and they give 30 minutes free air time that
expires if unused in 3 months.

They offered another 100 minutes for $20, useable along with the free
30 minutes, anytime in the first year.

All you had to do was give them your credit card number to get it,
    hahahaha.

The fuckers will then charge you on your credit card for the second
year at some goofy price I never even bothered to ask, without even
asking if you want it, unless you tell them to cancel it before the
    end of the year.

I asked if they would invoice me or it, and let me send them a cheque
or pay at the bank, and they said no, so I had to tell them what I
tell any communications company that asks for my credit card - NFW!
