    Default Valve job on a 2001 4cyl Eclipse (4G64)

Has anyone done this job that can describe what is involved to remove
the head while the engine is in the car? Will the intake and fuel rail
need to be removed? I'm hoping this could be reduced to the timing
belt/cam pulley, valve cover, and head.

How DIY is the job? I've already done some detailed car work and
rebuilt manual transmissions, but I've never done any kind of
head/valve work before. Would it be best/cheapest to pull the head and
pay a shop to do all the valve work?

Well I do rebuild manual transmissions in my spare time. So detail and
    perfection don't scare me.

I simply don't want to take on a job where the learning curve is such
that I don't have a reasonable chance, or that my efforts won't add to a
    dollar of savings.

Have ya head checked for any warpage just in case, i feel is a simple
procedure, take off first in line and reverse the procedure bingo back on
the road in no time. I have just finished rebuilding a 1986 mitsubishi magna
and now goes liek brand new.

    Good luck

Also like to wish every one a nice xmas and happy new year

For anyone else considering this, to do a valve job requires special
tools. The cost of the tools is more than that of having a shop rebuild
the head. As a part of the service they will also check the head for
cracks and warpage. If the head has high mileage, then the valve guides
    should also be replaced.

Trying to save money will only cost you more in the end. Don't do it!
