Default Pontiac Grand AM - No "Drive" Until Warm

93 Pontiac Grand AM, 3.3 liter, Automatic. Setting to "D" when motor is not
warm, trans doesn't go into "Drive" without very high RPM's. This is NOT
the case for reverse. After driving for a few minutes, no more problem
until allowed to cool. No other issues. Fluid and filter are in good
shape. Please assist.

Servo shot. Rebuild the trans.

That's it? No other solution?

If it is, in fact, a servo, that part needs to be replaced, not necessarily
the entire transmission. OTOH, once it is out of the car and apart, the
labor portion is pretty much the same no matter how many parts are replaced.

If you decide to take the car to a transmission shop, try to get
recommendations first. Some are reputable, others are less so.

As Edwin mentioned, you could just replace those seals.
It sounds like the pump pressure is sufficient because the reverse band is engaging.
Try some of that trans sealer stuff in a can.
