| | | Cost of brakes? Hi!
I was wondering how much you guys
are paying for brake jobs... I think it
would be a good thing for us "newbees"
to know.
What think you ? |

Other than for parts, I have never paid a dime for a brake job. |

Me neither. Never had to buy or reface rotors.
New front pads and a quart of fluid every 40k

I just had tires put on my 03 legacy wagon and they did the old sell
job on the brakes, "you really need a brake job you know" and even
quoted it. About $720.00, wow!
I checked them and they are close but not critical. In doing some
pricing the OE parts come in at about $4+ and the after market (non
sub) stuff is all over the place. Can get away for about $2+ with the
real economy stuff and the sky's the limit on the custom stuff. I will
probably end up with OE rotors at about $260+ and am still deciding on
pads. probably another $125 +-. I prefer to do the work myself. |

I am very pleased.

My experience on my outback with pads in that price range is quite
negative.
If you search the archives of this group on the subject of brakes,
many of us have come to the consensus that you won't be happy unless
you spend OEM Subaru money for brake parts.
Not sure what it is about these cars (perhaps the weight of em?) that
seems to leave cheap stuff in a world of hurt for braking.
