Default Subaru Sterio/CD 'Locking'?

I purchased a sterio head unit for my mom's `95 Legacy last week which came
out of a brand new WRX. The plugs fit and everything worked great. Radio
and weather bands come in perfect. However when inserting a CD, the CD just
spins for about 11 seconds and then ejects with no attempt to play music.
This is a regular store bought CD. Someone made mention once that swapping
a sterio from one car to another causes the sterios to need to be 'unlocked'
by entering a code. Is this true?? Or is the Cd player just going bad in
this??

Did you try using different CDs? Really sounds like it just doesn't
like that CD to me.

Yup, tried 15 different CD's, they all were ejected after 11-12 seconds in
the player without actually playing.

They were store bought CDs, not CD-R/RWs right? Some CD players don't
like those.

The other possibility is that while the plugs match, the wires may
not... you might have to track down the wiring diagrams and compare the
two. I would guess that they should be the same if the plugs are the
same... but you never know.

And the remaining possibility is that you just got a bad CD player...
if you bought it used off of eBay, that may have been the reason why
someone was trying to get rid of it in the first place... eBay is known
for that kind of stuff.
