I'd rather have the gunship version of the C-130 than the laser beam
version because how many targets can you shoot with the laser before
having to reload?

How is a C-130 and enormous chemical laser going to get in the wrong hands?

I am pretty sure the "wrong hands" are gonna choose medium yield surplus
Soviet-era MIRVs over an impossible to use or logistically support
C-130 and ridiculously complex chemical laser.

That's my point. An expensive flying laser that can fire only 100
shots (at most) before having to return to base for laser refueling
may be better for missile defense, but in a war like Vietnam or
Afghanistan, wouldn't a C-130 gunship be a lot more suited?

So if you don't have the right weapon, it's harder to win the battle,
and an airplane that can shoot only 100 time may not be nearly as
useful as one that can fire tens of thousands of rounds per minute.
I'm also saying the kinds of targets most appropriate for a flying
laser, like incoming ICBMs, will be far less common than the kinds of
targets that a C-130 firing conventional munitions handles best.

What were you thinking on this matter?
