Default 91 Toyota Camry Water leaking in to back carpet and trunk sides, spare wheel well

    Hi

I have a 91 Camry that after a heavy rain now has a huge amount of
water in the trunk - at the sides and in the spare wheel well. Where
could this be coming from and why does this not drain?

I dont' find any drains in the sides. Are there supposed ot be any.

Also, the carpet in the interior, rear floor is all soggy & no amount
of sponging it off helps. Could water be trapped underneath somewhere I
    dont' know about.

    Any suggestions.

    Thanks
    Sam

I'd be betting the bottom of the rear window frame has rotted. Has it been
raining or driven through a car wash?

One way to check would be to open the trunk, or, if you have fold-down
rear seats, leave the trunk closed and spray around the rear window with a
good, hard stream while someone inside the car watches. Make sure they
    don't mind getting wet!

Also, there may be a section of the floor that is rotting; getting the car
on a lift would be the easiest way to look for this

There are no drains in the trunk but there may be a plug in the bottom of
the left and right wells and spare tire well that can be pulled to let water
out. The plugs should be replace to prevent water from entering from
    underneath.

Another possibility besides the rear window is that the trunk lid was forced
closed on something big in the trunk, and the hinges were deformed enough so
that the lid does not squeeze the gasket around the trunk lid opening
tightly. When it rains, water seeps under the gasket into the trunk. If
the car is parked on an incline with the trunk at the high side, ware is
more likely to enter than if the car is parked with the trunk on the
downhill side. Adjusting the deck lid might solve the problem.

Check to make sure that the drain for the antenna is passed through the
gasket in the floor underneath the antenna.

If the car has a sunroof, make sure that the drains are routed through the
    holes in the floor.

You should be able to find your leak squirting the car with a garden hose.

But car carpet is water tight because it's rubber backed. That mean's if water
gets under the carpet it's not going to dry out for a long time. That's not good.
so you might need to take out the carpet or do something to dry the mat before it
    gets moldy.
