While the "need" for this world-wide carry is obviously in question,
there are far more important reasons to boycott the Beijing games
COMPLETELY.

Talk about non-journalists. Does anybody remember when the last
journalist retired?

"If people are looking for another reason to be pissed at China..."

Interesting form of journalism.

Although I am not a fan of the Olympic Committee I do not think we
should be using this international sporting event that athletes have
been training for their whole lives to make a political statement. Who
is really going to get hurt by the US not attending the Olympics, the
Chinese or the US athletes?

Hey, you ladies remember whence and from whom the torch originated in
Modern Olympics, no? Think 1930's, and what was happ'nin in the world
then? Who cares about the stupid Olympic Torch? Or the Olympics?

Should we reward their record of human attrocities with yet more of our
dollars?

I'm sorry, BGM, but sporting events are hardly a necessity of life.
Anyone's life.

Huh? 11 million punds of carbon emissions?!?!

I think they use a similar formula to the one used by police to estimate
the 'street value' of illicit drugs seized, or the Federal Government's
'sentancing guidelines' for turning an amount of crack cocaine into an
equivalent of powdered cocaine (for those not familiar, a one gram rock of
crack becomes about 5 pounds of cocaine, and the sentances are based on
this, usually 20 years and frequently, more.)
