Default OT: Why are crude oil prices rising?

It seems like everything that is done to ease the market is having no
effect.

My guess is there is a group of speculators out there with enough money to
make a difference in the price of oil and they're pumping the bubble just
like the speculators did with housing a few years back until home prices
were ridiculous.

Of course Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and the rest of the enemies of this
country are not going to lift a finger to lower oil prices. They enjoy
making 120-130 dollars for every barrel of oil they pump out of the ground.
Beats 40-60 dollars. Rape the infidel while you can.

But why do I get the feeling George Sore-Ass is behind the steep rise in oil
prices for no real reason? The oil supply isn't that 'short'. The amount
of supply has basically remained the same.

OTOH Chicago has the highest prices in the nation, thanks to our 'special
blend' we have to use for the summer and Todd Stroh-ger raising sales taxes
to the highest level in the nation. What a jerk.

Will the last person leaving Crook County please turn out the lights?

Supply and demand, economics 101
They got it, we want and need it to sustain our lifestyle, we pay
the price or go without. Be sure to thank the person next to you at
the stoplight, and the one in front of you and behind you that thinks he
or she has to drive a big SUV to be somebody. Also the couple in the
3500 sq. foot house that is heated and cooled. We are energy hogs, not
our fault, the marketeers have got us conditioned to feed our egos.
Might also want to think Bush, Cheney, and especially Rumsfeld for
fucking up the Iraq war so bad. That was our shot as cheap oil for a
long time, but it hasn't worked out, unless you happen to be Bush or
Cheney or one of their cronies.
Oh well, it will all work out one way or the other, and it's a good
show in the mean time.

Unfortunately, the show does not include popcorn, a beverage or comfortable
seats. And speculators are still having fun at your expense, just as if a
day trader in stocks was using your bank account.

Congress enacted law that deregulated the oil markets here in the U.S.
Speculators, Oil Companies, etc. have been playing us ever since as a look
at the price of a barrel of oil, over the past eight years, shows. This
situation has the basic lack of rules that made the Era of the Robber
Barons possible in the late nineteenth century.

Exactly. Why sell a gallon for a dollar if you can get away with selling a
half-gallon for 2 dollars.

We should be buying all of the oil coming out of Iraq today, and pouring the
proceeds back into reconstruction, or just construction -- as the case may
be.

Believing something for no reason is a sign of insanity.

The high prices makes it much more lucrative to go after those tar sands
and hard to reach oil fields.

That's a great idea, using Iraqi oil money to pay for reconstruction. Matter
of fact, that's exactly what was promised by Bush & Cheney back in 2003.
Unfortunately, it's not happening and Bush & Cheney don't care.

It has a lot more to do with China and India keeping their economic
engine running.

As I said here back in December, China initiated a ban on plastic
shopping bags. The eco-friendly BBC reporter couldn't figure why China
was concerned about the pollution caused by plastic bags when they were
polluting everything else.

It had nothing to do with pollution.
