But, the problem with this is these are the *expected* resale values
of the vehicles 2 or 3 years from now and they are as a percentage of
the actual price of the vehicle. So if a Lincoln Navigator is already
steeply discounted, well, the discounted price is actually used and
not the list price.

The numbers appear to be used to determine the price of leases, not as
actual prices.

Still surprising to see so many huge vehicles on that list.

The Featured Vehicles to the right of the story are not the vehicles with
the highest residual value, i.e., Navigator, Explorer, etc.

You have to watch the slide show to see the vehicles with the highest
residual value.

It's either love semantics or be labeled as anti-semantic ;-)

Interesting that with current resale numbers often exceeding retail new car
numbers that the Prius is not on this list.

I was wondering about that myself. The phenomenon where a used 2008 Prius
is worth more than a new one is a relatively recent development. The
article I read said that since dealers did not have new ones on the lot,
they were contacting customers who bought a Prius within the last year and
offering to buy them back for what they paid, in essence giving the owners
the use of the vehicles for the cost of money. I'm thinking that the
newness of the phenomenon means that it isn't reflected in residual values
yet.

I was wondering about that, too.
