Default ASE Certified Toyota Technician.

A couple months ago, I was advised by a Toyota Technician at the local
dealership that I needed to adjust the valves on my 20R *cold* to .008
intake and .012 exhaust. Well, I did that (even though it says
adjust HOT), and I changed the carburettor and the thing has been sort
of *mehh* as far as performance since then. It ran okay, but not as
well as I knew it could. Also, it was a friggin BITCH to start once
it was hot.. So, today, I re-adjusted the valves once it was hot.
Why did I listen to that certified FOOL? The car runs as it is
supposed to now, even with my over carburettion.

Thank you ASE! Once again you fucked me in the ARSE!
And yes, I'm not afraid to admit my mistakes. Fortunately, I didnt'
put enough miles on the car to burn a valve.

My ASE Master certifications have expired so hopefully, that puts me in a
better light ;-)

You are supposed to adjust the valves with the engine hot, but practically,
it is difficult to get them adjusted fast enough before the engine cools
down. I used to adjust them a little loose when cold, had not problems when
the engine warmed up.
