I refuse to read anything from Rollingstone, since they named their 100
Greatest Artists, and included Mad-Donna, but not David Byrne, despite
having proclaimed David's band, "Talking Heads" as "America's Best Band"
several times.
I cancelled my 20+ year subscription after that one.

Oh for heaven's sake, woman. My favorite supermarket grants entry to
shoppers with asses bigger than a Prius, and they make shopping almost
impossible sometimes. But, I still shop there. |

And that has what to do with David Byrne?
Think, man!

I don't know what RS' "rankings" are based on. Maybe record sales?
Interesting: For about 8 weeks, they've listed the #1 album on college radio
stations. Tom Waite. Amazing. |

Nope. to add insult to injury, they had "The next crop of legends" like
freaking Twitney offering commentary on the others. Like I want to read
what that airhead has to say.
It was voted on by their critics - some where people who never sold a
million records, so that wasn't it.
But then, that's the same magazine that rated Jack White (Who I like, BTW)
above Eddie Van Halen as a great guitarist. WAY above Eddie. Clearly their
credibility has suffered. I don't particularly care for the Van Halen sound,
but even I can see Eddie's way more agile than Jack.
:-P

Jack's good, but he hasn't been around long enough. This is an interesting
subject though, because locally, I'm beating the bushes trying to find a
REAL rhythm guitarist for my band. It's next to impossible. My own icon is
Keith Richards. I've gotten responses from musicians who've said "Keith
who?" Oh boy. |

Gawd, never mind their being out-of-touch with music; they must be
out-of-touch with reality! :-P
Jack, like David, is very inventive, but I don't think that even with time,
he'll be as good as EVH. David, however, totally has great rhythm. He's
mellowed in his old age, but I love how he's never afraid to try something
new. I have everything he ever *thought* about recording.
What instrument do you play, or are vocals only?
