Default Fan blade in front of radiator on a 1990 740 GLE ??

Hi all,

Yesterday I had to remove the grill from my 740 and noticed a
multi-blade fan blade directly in front of the radiator.

Later on I looked at it while the engine was running (at idle speed) and
it wasn't turning.

What's it's purpose ?

Just curious,

Perk (:>)

Should be the auxillary fan that is activated by a sensor to engage the
fan in unusually hot temperatures, or while at idle.

Someone disconnected mine on my 1987 740 before I got it, not sure why
and I haven't reconnected it. I probably should, as it is a cool 105
degrees here in Texas.

Some folks leave it alone when it dies, unless they really need it.

It's main purpose is to improve the efficiency of the air conditioning
at low speeds when there isn't much air moving through. It will also
come on if the coolant temperature exceeds a certain point.

Thanks. Mine just flat dismounted and is sitting, wedged in place. I
guess I can re-mount it and attempt to re-connect the power supply.

Hmmm. Weekend project.

Thanks again,
JB
