Default V70 P0442 CHeck Engine error

Hi,

I have a 2000 (Canada) V70 and this light comes on and when I check it
the error massage is P0442. I can clear it and it usually comes back on
after about 1/2 an hour.

It says that it is a EVAP Emission Controls small leak.

What I've read says that the valve responsible for dumping un- burnt
gases back into the mix could be at fault by not closing back up ( I
assume after it is warmed up?) or there may be a line leak between the
gas tank and the vapor recovery (is this the charcoal container?) or it
might be a gas cap leak, or in some cases the filler pipe to Gas Tank
fitting may be leaking.

I was told the easiest way to find a leak is use a smoke system and
inject the smoke, then view the system for smoke leaking out?

Does anyone know of a cheap smoke system?

Cheers,

Tom eh in Canada

Update: Last Night Aug 30, I cleaned around the edge of the gas cap
where it meets the edge of the neck on the tank and put it back on as
tight as I could manage (pressing in as hard as I could to stop it from
slipping). I reset the error drove without another error and then filled
up with gas and did the same. 24 hours later, there still isn't an error.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.
