Default '99 Chevy Sub K2500 front caliper removal

Hi
What tool is used to remove the caliper assembly from the truck? Looks like
a "Allen wrench" headed bolt to be removed. I'm making a trip to the NAPA
or Autozone.
Thanks,
Walt

My guess is 3/8" That's the normal size.

It is. Life is much easier if the OP purchases a 3/8" drive socket with the
3/8 hex head. I've done it with a large 3/8 allen key years back. Once. Got
the socket before I even did the other side.

Thanks for the answer. I'm off to shop and resume the brake fix.

Cheaper to buy the whole set of allen head drive tools than one piece at
a time. If possible try to find the type that use a replaceable bit ends
OR the ones that interchangeable bits. That way when the tool wears down
or gets twisted it can be easily replaced.

That, and a friend's station wagon took 5/16. You can get them (allen
wrenches) with 3/8 socket wrench drive. If they have two of them, get the
more expensive one. I got the cheap one, years ago. The tip rounded, and I
had to spend an hour, plus five bucks gas to go back and get the tool that
costs a dollar more.

On my van, I was wishing for a 3/8 allen tip with a half inch drive, so I
could power it with my impact gun. The top one, I didn't have enough room,
with the allen wrench tip, and the reducer.

The couple vehicles I've had, the last guys didn't grease the threads, and
it was miserable to get them out. Had to heat the caliper right behind the
head of the bolt. I havn't tried this, but if the end of the tool is a bit
rounded, grind it exactly flat, or maybe a little hollow on the end. The
darn things strip the six sided holes.
