P0894 code

Friend's 04 H2 Hummer has a problem. Sets code P0894, excessive TCC slip.
Took it to the dealer and they said they did all they could without R&R'ing
the transmission. It's a 4L60-E. Is there any common problem that causes
this? Drove it today and the converter is not locking up. There are no other
codes. When the transmission is cold it shifts perfect, when it warms up the
shifts get abrupt.
