This may be a little simple for some people, but I think it bears repeating. I'll expand on each step in future posts to this thread if there seems to be the interest.
There are 3 steps to successful internet marketing. It is not just about putting a web site together today, and selling more cars tommorrow. It takes a plan, organized effort and some time.
Step 1) You have to get the traffic to your website.
Heres a couple of easy ways...put your website address (url) on everything you have, your building, your uniforms, all your ads, your business cards and letterhead. This section also includes SEO (search engine optimization), PPC (pay per click programs) and more.
Step 2) Once they are at your website, you have to turn visitors into customers.
Yes, I know it's not easy. Your website has to have a goal first. Are you trying to get contact forms? credit applications filled out? What are you trying to accomplish? Then design and keep developing the site to attain those goals. Very few web providers are geared to improving your results. Take responsibility for the improvement yourself. If they won't help you, find someone who will.
Step 3) Now that you have a contact form or credit application, what do you do with it?
You need people with some additional training and understanding of the internet and how people use it. In addition, they have to have the resources (a CRM system perhaps) and the support of the rest of the staff to maximize appointments and sales. Having your salespeople do the contacts for your website is not the preferred route. You can double or triple your results, if you use dedicated staff for the contacting and appointment making tasks.
Sound complicated, maybe. But in todays automotive retail world, you do not have a choice anymore. I'll be expanding on each step in future posts.
