The car is a 330xi(auto) with 109k miles. Clean inside and out with no problems. I bought it for $13,500 during holiday time(cheap season) from a friendly dealer I knew pretty well. The KBB private value of the car is $15,600 and I even threw in $400 from my pocket to make the body perfect and car mechanically good. I picked this tip off of that dealer friend of mine coming by the shop I use to work at, doing the same things with his cars, basically fixing them up to get what he wants for it. Throw in a bit, get more out of it later type of mentality. Getting to the point, Im down to $13k and people still are running for their lives when they hear the mileage. I even tell them I'll work with them on the price, and I still never get a call back. My main question basically, that I would like a response on is, DO KBB values pretty much mean nothing in the real world? Nobody seems to wanna pay anywhere near what the car is worth! What gives? I could have rolled the mileage back months ago, but I wanna be honest, ya know? Thanks for any help.
Edit: Btw, heres a link to the car on craigslist 2003 BMW 330 xi - FOR SALE *MINT* |
I think this post just proves the point that people have more money than brains. Your number one mistake was trying to make money off a vehicle that a dealer sold you. That doesn't really make any sense at all. Yea some people get good deals through dealers.... but seriously not the brightest move made. Second mistake is you are 'starting' out with a vehicle over 100k miles, umm for what did you say... oh yea $13,500. You've got to be kidding me. So you got about $14,000 in this vehicle, maybe more with advertising. I say you stick it on ebay and sell it for whatever it goes for. The go buy about 7 or 8 cheaper lowerend vehicles that get decent gas mileage, price the vehicle on kbb retail value and list the vehicle $1000 to $1500 under that value and sell them quick, make sure you point out the kbb printout. You might make your money back that you lost. Craigslist is great... free, lot of people, and safe. However majority of the users o craigslist are lower middle class and college student folks. That is why you do not receive the response you want... however you list a vehicle that you may have 800-1000 bucks in and turn around and sell it under 2k you will have a greater response. Yeah finding those vehicles are harder to do and more than likely have problems, but do your homework. Another thing to do is look for trends. Rice burners, crotch rockets, jeeps, bling bling vehicles, ect. You might beable to spend more on these vehicles and still have a greater return. In my area Jeeps and bling bling rigs are all over. I had a 99 Jeep cherokee that I listed on craigs for 3500 with a lot of miles. Didnt last a day because it was lifted up and had big tires on it. I had a suburban, body wasnt that great on it. Had it listed under 2k on craigs for about a month. Fell into a greeat deal on some 20"s and tires, changed the price, bam sold it within a week for $2200. Just gotta look out for what people are wanting. You may like bimmers, but you are limiting to who you are selling to, even though most New Yorkkers tend to be up scale i bet there are more people looking for vehicles under 5k than people looking for vehicles over 5k. I could go on and on about more of this shit but im not, im done ranting, good luck.
