| | Having trouble selling my car.. Sorry, not sure what section to put this in. Im just your average guy trying to sell cars on the side and this was my first, and Im guessing failed attempt, since I can't sell my high mileage 2003 BMW that I thought I could at least make 500 bucks off of. The car is a 330xi(auto) with 109k miles. Clean inside and out with no problems. I bought it for $13,500 during holiday time(cheap season) from a friendly dealer I knew pretty well. The KBB private value of the car is $15,600 and I even threw in $400 from my pocket to make the body perfect and car mechanically good. I picked this tip off of that dealer friend of mine coming by the shop I use to work at, doing the same things with his cars, basically fixing them up to get what he wants for it. Throw in a bit, get more out of it later type of mentality. Getting to the point, Im down to $13k and people still are running for their lives when they hear the mileage. I even tell them I'll work with them on the price, and I still never get a call back. My main question basically, that I would like a response on is, DO KBB values pretty much mean nothing in the real world? Nobody seems to wanna pay anywhere near what the car is worth! What gives? I could have rolled the mileage back months ago, but I wanna be honest, ya know? Thanks for any help.
Edit: Btw, heres a link to the car on craigslist 2003 BMW 330 xi - FOR SALE *MINT*

| | first of all, craigs list will not do you justice selling your car, the exposure is minimum and minimized to a cetain area.
Also KBB prices of course are not to be relied on you better off going with the wholesale pricing as your friend dealer probably got it way below the wholesale price (due to the mileage)
Try pushing the car on ebay but know this a car with such a high pricetag only appeals to those buyers who got such cash in hand, which cuts off all the finance driven buyers (who make up the majority of the clientele)
Hey every1 misses on the first few sales in this biz and many other sales ventures, learn oyur lesson and start with something more affordable to an average buyer

| | Thanks for you response Tolik.
I see. I knew craigslist wasn't the best place to put it. I never got not one call from there. Maybe 2 emails most in past 2 months. So how do I find out the wholesale price of the car? Im guessing KBB doesn't really have that feature, right?
I see what your saying about the majority of the clientele. I never thought $13k was that high of a price to eliminate almost everyone looking to buy a car like this. Probably would have been better to start out with a cheaper Toyota or something. A car like this, seems to be harder to sell, especially with the mileage and no warrenty. I had one guy call me tryin to sell the same car for $17k with 98k miles. That was funny. He was wondering why Im going so cheap, since BMW offered him $14k as a trade in which I think is reasonable, but I can't afford a new car.
And as for Ebay, I knew I was doing something wrong with craigslist, so I threw it on a few days ago. But $40 bucks is a bit much for a 7 day listing, and this is more of a hit or miss experience. My friend told me theres a way to trick that system so you don't pay that much time, each time you list, but I don't have the time to figure it out.
Heres the ebay link.. Hopefully you check it out before it gets takin down. Really reasonable in my opinion for what the person is getting. eBay Motors: BMW : 3-Series (item 160217176812 end time Mar-17-08 01:39:30 PDT)

| | I'm stubborn enough to not sell regardless how badly cars are selling now. I already dropped it down to $12,500 and I'm not going any lower. I will negotiate a bit though. But the set price is not going lower. If I won't be getting something around that for an 03' Bimmer, I'm keepin it. Nobody is getting a steal with me. They are already getting more then a great deal on a clean car. 110k is nowhere near the end of the road for this car. If nobody wants to pay without robbing me, I get to keep it then eBay Motors: BMW : 3-Series (item 160217176812 end time Mar-17-08 01:39:30 PDT)
Good luck with the bike Quote:

I just picked up a 2005 Acura RSX type S mint condition, 41k for $15,000
used dealers were anywhere form 18,900 to 20,999 and not going lower than 17k for a non type S model, and not willing to deal much, I talked to a guy I met on craigslist, he wanted $17,500, I called him back like a month later he dropped it to 16,000. Meet with him to check out the car it was mint condition, but I noticed it needed new tires so I talked him down to 15k cash done deal. This is the best time to buy vehicles!
Now I am looking for a 2007-2008 Yahama R1 I know I will be able to find a deal with the way people are losing there homes and foreclosures etc, someone is going to wanna either get out of payments or pick up some quick cash. Wish me luck. | |

| | Very nice vehicle, Dear Mister Skyline
I just checked out the pictures of your BMW on ebay. I have to say wow, that car is clean, looks like it is in mint condition. The price appears to be a steal. I love the color.
Damn if I as in a better position i'd pick that up as an extra vehicle just to have as a 2nd vehicle for that price.
Try posting it on every available used car site on the internet. There are a lot of free ones just do lots of google searches.

| | Thanks, Im in love with the color too .. And the wheels.
I guess many people don't know a good deal when they see one, because all I got during the past few months of trying to sell it was serious low ballers. Oh well. Theres a company OneStopMotors that gives you finance and warrenty features, advertises it everywhere for you, and sells it. You don't even have to meet the person that buys your car. Their 'agents' come and pick your car up. With all that, you end up selling it for alot more. My lack in allowing the buyer to finance and warrenty the car, is whats killing the value here. The same cars go for $17k on ebay just cause they have those features. All for a hefty some of $500. I can't really afford to play with them, so I let them pass. But I really do believe they are the way to go if you have the money while trying to sell your car and get the most out of it.
It's currently on Craigslist. I guess I should look around for a few more free spots. Thanks. Stupid ebay is causing me nothing but headaches. Some asshole bids on it for the hell of it, and I get stuck with a $50 bill. I don't need their corny "free value credit". lol Quote:
