Default Comparing the 2009 Corvettes: Performance and Driving

The 2009 Corvette lineup is nothing short of spectacular. Even the base model has it where it counts, and can holds its own on the road. Still, it’s worth taking a look at all three to see how they perform, and what you can expect when you get behind the wheel.

As you would expect, the ZR1 is the fastest of the three. It goes from zero to 60 in just 3.4 seconds. The Z06 model isn’t far behind, hitting 60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds. The base 2009 Corvette takes 4.1 seconds to get to 60, still a respectable speed.

In terms of extended driving, the base 2009 Chevrolet Corvette coupe is probably the most livable. The ride on the highway is smooth, and there is very little noise from the tires. The engine hums, but not too loudly. What’s especially interesting is that it hits 26 miles per gallon on the highway, making it a reasonably economical vehicle.

The Z06 is fine on the highway, being even more quiet than the base model. On back roads, however, especially bumpy ones, the Z06 tends to dart a bit and crash hard over the roughest surfaces.

The ZR1 does all right on the back roads when the shocks are set to the “tour” setting. On the highway, the shortened gear ratios make driving a bit rowdier.
