Default How to Report Automotive Problems

Most drivers have had an experience when their vehicle started acting or behaving in a strange way. Maybe it was reduced performance or a strange noise that suddenly appeared, but the result is always the same - a trip to the dealership mechanic to see what is wrong. Trying to verbally reproduce the factors that lead one to believe there is a problem with their vehicle is not easy, but here are a few tips to help get the information across in a clear and concise manner.

Use your senses.

If there’s a problem with your Nissan try to take note of what is seen, heard, smelled, or felt when the issue first arises. Don’t be afraid to be imaginative, if the problem sounded like glass breaking, or marbles rolling around inside a box, say so. It may sound silly to the owner of the vehicle, but it may just create an “aha!” moment for the mechanic. When it comes to cars, there aren’t many problems that have never before been heard of, so he or she might spot the fix right away.

Pay attention.

Make sure to record what your Nissan was doing when the problem occurred. If the vehicle was taking a curve, going into a turn, or accelerating these can be important clues as to what may be causing the problem. Make sure to mention if the problem is constant or only occurs when the car is performing certain tasks. Also make sure to note the weather and road conditions when the problem was first noticed.

Write it down.

Keep a notebook in the glove compartment of the vehicle. Trying to remember these sensations minutes, hours, or days after the fact can be difficult and inaccurate. Having a record taken right after the fact will ensure accurate information is conveyed to the mechanic and the problem can be located more efficiently.

See your dealership soon.

The sooner you get your car to the Classic Nissan service center, the better. Most people aren’t mechanics and don’t know when a problem is serious. Serious problems only get worse with time, so waiting to see if the issue goes away on its own is not going to save you money or hassle in the long run. If there’s something going wrong with your car, schedule an appointment with the mechanics at Classic Nissan, your area Wilmington Nissan dealership, to get your car back to running smoothly in no time.
