Default Nissan Wheel and Brake Care

Nobody’s ever going to say that the engine of your new Nissan car isn’t important. It’s vital, of course. But what about the maintenance on the rest of your car? Doesn’t it deserve some care as well?

When you think about it, your wheels are just as important as the engines we’re always talking about, bragging about, or worrying about. High horse power is all well and good, but your wheels and tires are the only part of your Nissan touching the world... they should get some consideration as well.

Here are some of the things you can do and monitor to keep the wheels and tires on your new Nissan car doing their job properly to keep you safe on the road.

Keep your caps on

Those little caps that go on the valves of your tires are important. They keep the air in and the pollutants and debris out. Make sure to keep them on, and when you do replace your tires, let the salesperson know you expect new caps.

Get the right pressure

Most people don’t pay a whole lot of attention to their tire pressure, but it’s really important. There’s a sweet spot between too much pressure and too little. If you have too much pressure you’ll feel each and every bump as well as run the risk of blowing a tire. If you have too little pressure, your tires overheat and wear down more quickly. Check your tire pressure at least once a month, more in the summer when it’s hotter outside.

Check your tires for uneven wear

If you’ve been diligent and there’s nothing wrong with your tire pressure and you’re experiencing uneven wear on your tires, you might need to have your alignment checked. If it’s not your alignment, it could also mean your brakes or shocks are operating improperly, your wheel is bent or your tire has suffered internal damage.

Get your tires rotated

Making sure you get your tires rotated often is critical to getting the most use out of your tires. You can talk to a representative at our Mt. Holly Nissan dealership near Cherry Hill (NJ) when you buy your new Nissan car to find out how long you should go before your first tire rotation. Generally speaking, rotate your tires between 6,000 and 7,500 miles. You’ll make sure you get the maximum value out of your tires and save your money for taking your new Nissan out for a road trip.
