I have a question regarding finance price and cash price.
I was hoping I could get some information or possibly some clarification on a deal breaker issue I am having with a used car dealer. It looks like this forum is for dealership employees and other auto sales professionals but I thought I would give it a shot anyway.
Here is the deal. I went to look at and test drive a vehicle. I like it and we sit and talk about numbers. The finance price is $11,000 and the cash price is $9,500. The sales person comes back from talking with the sales manager and tells me they have made a great deal. They are taking $1,000 off the top so it is $10,000 to me. I let them know they have made a mistake as I will be coming in with my own financing and handing them a bank check so I want the deal off the cash price.
They tell me that because there is going to be a lien on the title, even if it is not through their finance company that it is considered a finance deal and I will have to pay the finance price. I tell them it is not right but sales manager agrees that if there is a lien on the title, I have to pay the finance price.
Can anyone tell me if I am out of my mind regarding this? I have never heard of anything like this before. If the vehicle is purchased but not financed through the dealership, how can they insist that because the title will have a lien on it that I would have to pay the finance price. I just can not wrap my brain around it.
I would really appreciate hearing from someone about this. Any ideas, suggestions, input or opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for the time and have a great day!
