Default Importance of an Internet Manager/Department

Many car dealerships do not even have an internet manager. The incorrect assumption is that if they just put up a cookie cutter website, this will be sufficient in gathering some leads. Many times the sales team manages the leads they do get ineffectively in some form or another.

Others have entire internet departments that fully utilize the web. They are proactive and edit their online inventory meticulously. They benefit greatly from selling cars online because they understand the dynamic of internet marketing completely.

So what does it take to make the jump from simple website to internet powerhouse? General managers that understands the internet? A new person that has experience in internet sales and marketing?

What do you think?

Default politely disagree

I find that most dealerships today do have an Internet Manager and most of them today are qualified to be in that post (most not all). However I think the days of "Internet Manager" and "Internet Department" are over. Dealerships do not have a TV department or a Newspaper department, so why segregate between Internet and everything else. The sales process of a dealership should be designed and optimized with the Internet as the pinnacle of its existence and purpose, not a lateral extension.
