Starting in 06, they switched to a chain...
Is there any replacement recommendation for the chain, or is it "drive it
until it messes up"?

Nobody knows yet; the cars are still too new.
Some chains are durable, some are fragile. Honda's are an unknown quantity
right now.
The old RWD T-series Toyota chains would last quite literally forever, just
getting noisier and noisier until you got it replaced to prevent deafness.
There were certain other chains (Nissan Axxess engine comes to mind) that
needed to be replaced at intervals of less than 100K miles, or the
interference engine would suffer severe damage.

Toyota went back to chains on their 4-bangers starting with the '98 Corolla.
I am not aware of any chain-related problems with those.
